Krash loves the Field Flier game, and really all of them, but Field Flier is his favorite.image

I even found these cute printables on their site, if your child loves the cute characters!

Letter of the Week ~ Giveaway! CLOSED

Congratulations #360 Debbie, YOU WIN!!!!!

{chose via random.org}

I am honored to share my good bloggy-friend- Erica’s Letter of the Week Curriculum with you!

image

Most of you probably already know Erica, her blog- Confessions of a Homeschooler, is hard to miss because it is simply amazing! If you haven’t been there, go now! Erica is the one who taught me how to put the fancy navigation drop down menu bar on my blog and I am so grateful, it is probably the most useful thing I have ever added to my blog! She is also a Totally Tots team member, managing our Crafty Corner feature for us.

Erica has generously offered to give away her set of Letter of the Week printables in either download or cd format! She graciously offers them for free on her blog too, but as a package download for a fee…I think this idea is brilliant. It allows those who can’t afford to pay the $ the option of downloading the pieces one by one, but also gives those of you who can afford $10 a way to support her efforts financially while also getting the printables as a simple package.

As I well know, a LOT of time goes into into not only creating the printables, but also sharing them. Converting them, uploading them, and presenting them often takes more work than creating some of them! The amount of work that has gone into her printables is unreal! Erica does this generously not only for her Letter of the Week, but also for many other printables she makes.

We use her Letter of the Week printables on a regular basis, here’s a few action shots of Krash enjoying Erica’s work…

K is for Kite

image imageimage

You can find all of her printables on her site [which is so easy to navigate using her top bar and sidebar box}. If you can afford to purchase her package, I highly recommend it, even just as a way to say THANKS to her and to give her some financial encouragement as she shares so freely with all of us. Plus, it gives you the ability to have all of the printables at your fingertips after you download them all at once.

One of you is going to win the Letter of the Week Curriculum!

To enter, leave a comment here telling me who you would use this curriculum for!

After you do that, you can gain some extra entries by any of the following, remember to leave an extra comment for each item so they will count as entries...

  1. If you Follow/Subscribe to 1+1+1=1 give yourself an extra entry.
  2. If you Follow/Subscribe to Confessions of a Homeschooler, give yourself an extra entry.
  3. If you Follow/Subscribe to Totally Tots, give yourself an extra entry.
  4. If you would post about your win on your blog, give yourself an extra entry.

This Giveaway is open for anyone, although if you want the cd format it is for US shipping only.

I will select a winner using Random.org, so be sure you leave a separate comment for each entry, I will also be moderating comments to check that your entries are valid-please be honest!

Contest ENDS May 9, 2010. Winner will be announced here, and emailed (your email MUST be in each comment/or enabled in blogger). Winner must reply to my email within 48 hours or another winner will be chosen.

100 Days in the USA ~ Giveaway! CLOSED

Updated-Congratulations Laura #21-you won!

Photobucket

Way back when we had our 1000 Subscribers Celebration, I was sent 2 awesome games from Out of the Box . The first one, Backseat Drawing-I reviewed here {we still love it}. The next one, 10 Days in the USA-I saved until now as Pac Man is a bit older and it is more of an advanced game.

You can read the rules of this unique game here, and some modifications for younger kids here. This is a game that I will need to play with Pac Man for quite awhile, and we have yet to get Dad involved but I am sure he will whoop us all.

This game takes tons of focus and strategic thinking, even my brain was tired {in a good way}. It is recommended for ages 10 and up, Pac Man is almost 8. We just played it in a modified way and worked togetherer and it was awesome. I could really see his brain working as he explored the different ways to create a travel plan that would work for him.IMG_1120

It is an awesome game, the board alone is wonderful as a teaching tool itself even without the game! You could easily just use the board and cards to find the states! In our version of play this day, Pac man won the game!

Here’s the view of how Pac Man won {and yes, the cat helped a ton}…

Start in Texas, walk to LA {since it borders TX}, fly to GA {since they’re both blue}, drive to MO{since they share a bordering state}, walk to IA, drive to ND, walk to MT.IMG_1127

They also have different versions of this game, {Europe, Asia, Africa}, and so many other great learning games on their site, we love Apples to Apples also!

Would you like to win 10 Days in the USA???

Flip Along Fun ~ Giveaway! CLOSED

We Have a Winner...

Congratulations Carrie, comment #201 {chosen via Random.org}

image0011We were sent an adorable book to review, called Flip Along Fun. This is a very unique book, and both of my boys have enjoyed it since I shared it with them. At first, I showed it to Krash had he was not at all interested. I got a bit worried, but figured he would like it eventually. Boy was I right! Once he saw how interactive it was, he was in love. I just had to get him to stop long enough to show him what it was and read him some of the silly rhymes to make him giggle and he was sold!

Soon, Pac Man saw us giggling and wanted in on the action too. The book is designed for kids ages 2-6, but Pac Man is almost 8 and enjoyed it thoroughly. I especially loved seeing them read the book and giggle together at the stories they created.IMG_1080Pac Man is very into teaching Krash to read and it was sweet watching him point to the words as he read them. Krash sat for a long time like this, which was awesome! IMG_1087

After I was done snapping the photos for the review, I left the school room to prepare lunch. I came back in to check on Krash a few minutes later and found him like this…

Would you say he likes it?IMG_1100

Flip Along Fun is perfect for teaching many concepts, and does it in a fun and engaging way. Krash is all about being silly, so he loved putting silly rhyming stories together. He also loves numbers and counting, so that aspect really appealed to him also.

Look for this image on the homepage of their site to watch a great video showing the book in action. The video does an excellent job of explaining the unique aspects of this book.

iRewardChart App Review and Special Promo!

imageI was given the opportunity to review an awesome new app for my iPod Touch called iRewardChart.  I was interested in the app for obvious reasons…you know since my little angels aren’t always little angels.  In an effort to keep the peace in the home, while teaching them self-control and many other Godly character traits, I thought maybe technology could assist me with this!

In walks a behavior chart of sorts, all in the palm of my hand!  This app is really cool and is only in its beginning stages, I have emailed with the developer and he has upgrades already in the works to make it even better!

I am a chart and list making momma, I thrive on the next cutest chart I can create to help keep life in order.  Charts on a gadget are my new favorite thing.  I have my grocery list on my iPod Touch, my baby timer/milestone tracker, and more.  This app is great for keeping things all in one place!

Very simply, it works like this…

Enter each child you want to keep track of (these are sample images, not my kids!!!)… image

Decide what you want to track (you can choose from what they have AND enter your own)…image

Keep track… image

Payout… image

For the payout, you decide what your child is working towards ahead of time, and assign it a “star” value, when it comes time to pay out, your child will “purchase” what they have worked towards.

You can browse their site for more info and more details of how it works and the options they have.  I also found a neat YouTube video that walks through the app very well so you can see it in action.

The app is regularly priced at $4.99 which honestly I believe is a bit high for what it is.  I shared this with the developers and they responded to my concern in a great way!  They assured me that they have many upgrades on the horizon, one of which has just launched!  In honor of this upgrade launch, they are dropping the price of this app to 99 cents for just a couple of days!!!!!  That’s right, you can get the full version for just 99 cents if you act within the promo window!  If you are at all interested, I recommend snapping it up now for this low price.

You can buy this app here in iTunes.

There are many possibilities of using this app to help with your children's behavior/chore goals.  I do not think it is an all-in-one solution to anything, just another tool that can be used in raising obedient and Godly children. I personally use it in combination with other discipline strategies in our home, it is not the only thing.  Honestly I am in the stages of reworking it into our daily routine, as we fell off of the wagon over the holidays (I received the app way before Christmas).  It will work differently for each family and even for each child within the family-it’s a matter of making it work for you and your kids!

Thanks to the team at iRewardChart for allowing me to review this app free of charge!

Want to see more apps I love?

Featuring SmartMom ~ Giveaway! CLOSED

SmartMomWebLogo70

To say Ladybug loves my SmartMom necklace would be a total understatement. She LOVES, LOVES “our” necklace. Whenever I have it on, it always ends up in her mouth, her hands and sometimes even off my neck while I am changing her diaper and can’t lean over far enough for her to hold it. She notices it from across the room even and will reach for me and then grab right a hold of it!IMG_7323

When I first got the necklace she was a bit younger and she certainly liked it, but now that she is older she LOVES it. She is currently almost 9 months old and has been seriously in love for at least a month now!
