What is a Strider Running Bike?
*words in italics are taken from the Strider site.
The Strider™ running bike is free from any cables, chains, sprockets, pedals or protrusions that can harm your child.
And the Strider™ is steady, stable and safe. At the first feeling of instability, your child will instinctively place both feet securely on the ground. So there are no "tricycle tip-overs" or "training-wheel wobbles" that stir-up a fear, hesitancy, or dislike of bike riding.
The Strider’s lightweight design and low center of gravity make it easy to maneuver and control, giving your child a safe and secure feeling. And the bike’s adjustable seat height starts at 11 inches from the ground, accommodating the shortest of legs.
Control is further enhanced with a low and flat handlebar design. Kids can now reach forward rather than up, which gives them better leverage and maneuverability. And as the your child becomes more confident, the Strider’s integrated foot rests provide a place for both feet while coasting along.
This is the absolute perfect bike for a young child. The age recommendation is: 1-5, and Krash is 3 1/2 so it was just perfect. Now owning it, I can see where it would have been wonderful to have long before now! I look forward to letting Ladybug start riding it much earlier than K did. Here you can read the advantages of a Strider Running Bike on their site, in case you are unfamiliar with these awesome bikes. We live in the inner city, so we ride bikes in weird places. Here's Krash in action on our deck, which he loves, and rides around in circles for hours!

Krash had a bit of trouble for the first day, as he realized he actually had to learn to balance. He enjoyed the challenge and was so proud of himself the first time he was able to glide with his feet up. It was giggles and smiles galore as he proudly displayed his new talent!

My favorite things about this bike:
- Lightweight~ I was shocked with how light it was
- Smooth and safe ~no rough edges (like pedals, chains)
- Reasonably Challenging ~ Krash had to learn how to balance, and I loved that it was a bit of a challenge for him, but one he could easily figure out quickly and feel a sense of accomplishment!
- Looks Cool ~ I love the dirt-bike look. It looks like a real big kid bike!
- Awesome Color ~ We love orange (and they have tons of other cools colors too)

ReplyDeleteI watched the Strider Fun Family Walks Video and if i win cant wait to have those fun family walks! My son would seriously love this bike! If we dont win may have to talk Daddy into one of these for Christmas!
ReplyDeleteOh you can betcha that i will blog about this!!! And even post pictures!
ReplyDeleteKaleb is 2 and Zachary is 4. Either one would love it {but I'd love it for Kaleb!}.
ReplyDeleteWatched the video of the 27 month old 'riding' the bike - the whole concept is GREAT!!
ReplyDeleteToo funny that he stripped down a bike and re-welded the whole thing back together.
ReplyDeleteAnd as always - of COURSE I would post a picture of Kaleb riding his new bike!
ReplyDeleteThe first time I saw these bikes I wanted to get one for my 22 month old.

ReplyDeleteI watched the 27 month old and the advantages.
ReplyDeleteI love that it was invented by a dad trying to help out his son. So cool!
ReplyDeleteI have a 3 year old that would love this! THanks
ReplyDeleteI watched family fun walks and now I really want one for both of my kids.
ReplyDeleteI will post a photo if I win.
ReplyDeleteI would post a picture of my son with his new bike.
ReplyDeleteThe creator has the same name as my son:) I didn't realize that balance had to be learned before pedaling.
ReplyDeleteI watched the advantages of a strider bike video
ReplyDeletemy son is two, and he woudl love this.
ReplyDeleteI'd love to win this for my son who is 2 1/2 years old :)

ReplyDeleteheatherlbrandt (at) verizon (dot) net

I watched the video of the 27 month old riding the bike.
ReplyDeletecourtney_r_r at yahoo dot com
I think it is neat that he created this bike for his son because the other kids bikes caused his son frustration and weren't as safe.
ReplyDeleteNeat that the inventor, Ryan McFarland, also invented the Thudbuster suspension seat-post for adult bikes.
ReplyDeletecourtney_r_r at yahoo dot com
I watched the video of the 27 month old riding and thought it was hilarious when someone not on tape started asking, "Where's his elbow pads? Where's his knee pads?"
ReplyDeleteI will one up the photo. If I am the happen to win this bike, I will VLOG about it. :)
ReplyDeleteI would use this for me daughter almost 5, though I know ds 12, dd 11, dd 9, ds7, dd 3, ds 1 and any more to follow will enjoy it too!
ReplyDeleteI read about this...such imagination and creativity. I love that he saw problems.... and then figured out how to fix them!
ReplyDeleteI watched the family walks film...great inspiration
ReplyDeleteI am sure my daughter would be happy to model this product, on my blog!!!
ReplyDeletewow! i LOVE the orange bike- i am happy to see they are giving away this one! my daughter is soon to be 2 and is the most active little gal i have ever seen- she would love this!
ReplyDeleteThe child I would love this for is 2 1/2 years old. He really wants to ride his brother's bike, but is just way too small for it.
ReplyDeleteI subscribed to the strider newsletter!
ReplyDeleteOMG!! Both my boys - age 4 and 2 - would LOVE this! What an awesome giveaway!
ReplyDeletei learned that this bike was really designed with the kiddo in mind- having them avoid the fear of falling which could later create a hesitancy and dislike of bike riding.... and i had never thought about teaching balance and coordination before pedaling, but that makes sense!!!
ReplyDeleteMy daughter just turned 2. :)
ReplyDeleteI love that he was into mountain bike, dirt bike, and stock cars very early on. Oh...and I love the fact that he made the first prototype from a bike from Kmart. :-)
ReplyDeleteand we'll post a pic in our blog if we win :)
ReplyDeleteI subscribed to the newsletter!
ReplyDeleteI watched the video of the big brother showing the little brother how to ride. It is so cute and I love how the little guy isn't even two yet. :-)

ReplyDeleteI watched the "27 Month Old Rides Balance Bike" video, as that is how old my son is and I wanted to picture what it would look like with him using it!
ReplyDeleteyes, i'll take a pic!
ReplyDeletecarisa, i would take a movie of her riding her bike if thats what it would take to win!!! :)
I think it's sweet that the invention came out of a father's love and concern for his own son!
ReplyDeleteI would absolutely post a blog and picture/ video of my son riding this bike!
ReplyDeleteI thought it was pretty cool that it all got started by a dad who went to the store to get the safest bike he could for his kid and came home and made "repairs" to make it as safe as possible and something that his kid could actually enjoy!! That is just awesome!!
ReplyDeleteMy 4 year old has had such trouble trying to learn how to pedal his tricycle (we live in the country so he doesn't have any smooth concrete to ride on which makes it even tougher!). I love his philosophy - that balance and coordination need to be taught first and the pedaling will naturally come!
I watched the 27 month old on balance back because Aaron is 27 months old right now!! :-)
ReplyDeleteI would love to win this for my 3yo boy!
ReplyDeleteYou bet I will post a picture and blog about the win and Strider!!!
ReplyDeleteBTW - I just ordered some leggings from your mom's site today!! :-) I have bookmarked her site!! ReplyDeleteI thought Ryan's back ground was interesting. My husband is a huge racing fan and the fact that Ryan's grandfather raced against Al Unser was really neat. It gives you confidence in his knowledge about mechanics!
ReplyDeleteI will definitely blog about this bike if I win :)
ReplyDeleteI watched the advantages of strider bike video. I thought that it was really interesting the point he made about training wheels not really training. I also liked seeing the little one ride the bike, you got a good sense of how it worked because just from reading I couldn't figure out where they would put their feet when they lifted them!

ReplyDeletejoshandmichelle6@live.com
I learned that the first strider bike came from K-mart, lol. How cool that he cut and re-welded it to fit his son.
ReplyDeleteThe story of how this came to be is really cool! I discovered that Ryan, the inventor, invented the bike because he felt the bikes and tricycles that were out there for his son were unsafe! So he began his quest to make one for his son!
ReplyDeletejoshandmichelle6@live.com
My son is 16 months and would love this when he gets older, but I might give it to one of my newphews for their birthday. I have a 3 & a 4 year old that would love it.
ReplyDeletekimberlysummer40@aol.com
I watched the video : Advantages of a Strider Running Bike!! This is really a wonderful idea. I have 2 older children who are 7 & 6 and would have loved this. I think it would be great for my 2 1/2 & 1 year old!! Also, I think it will make a better transition to riding a real bike...the hardest thing for my oldest son to learn was balance and this teaches them early on how to do that :) LOVE IT!!!
ReplyDeletejoshandmichelle6@live.com
I love the sound effects of the 27 month old. I was wondering if you could take them on a family bike ride, but I can see a walk would be easier. Still cool!

ReplyDeleteI watched the Big brother showing his little brother how to ride it - so cute!!
ReplyDeleteeveninggrace@comcast.net
I totally want one of these for my almost 2 year old son! We are finally moving to a house that has a place for him to safely ride! What a great birthday gift this would be!
ReplyDeleteI thought it was a very good sign that the creator originally made this bike, simply for his own kid, without the intention of selling it en mass!
ReplyDeleteI watched all of the videos, but my favorite one was on the big bro and the little bro- The little guy reminded me of my own son!
ReplyDeleteMy son is 3.5 and would love this bike. We saw a child with one at the park one day and he really was curious about it.
